Description
Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major (Op. 88), composed in 1889, features a famous third movement titled Allegretto grazioso- Molto vivace. The movement is composed in G minor and primarily operates as a gentle waltz in 3/8 time. Dvořák famously adapted the principal melodies from his earlier opera The Stubborn Lovers (Tvrdé palice), giving the symphonic waltz a vocal and lyrical quality. The elegant primary section contrasts dynamically with a lively Molto vivace section in the trio, while the quick coda recalls the spirited, rhythmic drive of his Slavonic Dances. 3 flutes and alto.
