Description

Boyce: Symphony No 2. ‘Ode for the King’s Birthday’. William Boyce’s Symphony No. 2 in A Major, often referred to as the “Birthday Symphony,” is a vibrant example of mid-18th-century English orchestral music. Composed in 1756, it originated as part of an ode titled “When Caesar’s native day,” celebrating King George II’s birthday. Boyce later adapted this work into an independent symphony, which was published in his collection Eight Symphonies, Op. 2 in 1760. The symphony comprises three concise movements: Allegro assai, Vivace and Presto allegro. Boyce: Symphony No 2 is transcribed here in it’s entirety for 4 flutes, alto and bass flute. Intermediate playing level required.
